texts going to the wrong number?!

This problem has happened ever since I got the HTC Desire, and only with one contact.

This particular contacts number begins 078.... when they text and I go to 'reply' my message is sent to an 077.... number. All other digits are the same. The same happens if I go to their name in my address book and hit 'send message', it ends up going to an 077 number.

All messages are under the same thread in my inbox regardless of the two different numbers. The only way to tell which number the message has gone to is to go to 'message details' for each individual text - and from the numerous angry messages i'm receiving from whoever has the 077 number!

I've tried deleting the contact and re-adding, i've removed the contact all together and typed the number in each time, i've switched between storing it on the phone and/or sim, changed it from 078... to +4478... nothing has worked.

Anyone have this problem? Or know how to fix it?

The only advise i've had that worked for a while was to update to the latest HTC software, this helped for a week after the update and then became faulty again.

I can only assume its a fault with the handset, yet Vodafone (network provider) and Phones 4u (where I got the phone) are reluctant to accept this.

My wife's HTC G2 is doing the same thing. It removes the 0 from the area code of my number instead of 405-xxx-xxxx it shows as 45-xxx-xxxx. My number is the only one she is having problems with and, get this , it only happens when I'm at work . I leave work and everything works as it should. Haven't found an answer yet but I'm still trying. Have you resolved the issue yet?

i just bought the Samsung Galaxy S II and i get the same issue.. when i created a contact for a friend i accidently put in the wrong area code, i deleted every single trace i could find of the wrong area code and when he replies i STILL get the number from the wrong area code. Where is the root of this evil?
