Exclamation How to do a Super Hard Reset!

Had an issue with my phone and had to call for support. They had me do a complete hard reset and it fixed my problems.

Not sure if it has been posted but it may help some...

    1. Turn off phone all the way. You have to HOLD power button and tell it to shut down.
    2. Hold HOME and RED POWER down for 25 seconds until you see a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Even though the G1 logo thing starts keep holding it down.
    3. Slide open keyboard and press ALT-L.

From here just read screen. You will use the ALT-W command.

This will not erase anything on your SD card.

Thanks for the info. Do any of these steps erase all of the data on the phone itself? My phone has locked up twice and I had to disconnect/reconnect the battery to turn it back on, but it would be much easier to use a hard reset in the future instead. The thing is, I don't want to accidentally delete all of my info. Thanks!

Yes it will clean some kind of cache on the phone and reset the firmware to the factory. You will have to reset it up all the way. This is a last resort for those with issues.

I just tried it again and it would have worked if I pushed ALT-W to do the wipe. Remember to turn phone off completely by holding down power and shutting it down. Then do the above and it has to work.

Thanks Valkster. What about the first step of holding down power and home? If I do that but don't do anything else after it, do you know if that single step erases data from the phone?

Oh no, nothing will happen until you ultimately hit the ALT-W. Try it, their is another key combo as well, but im not gonna mess with that one.
