hey there guys,
So I got my G1 like 2 seconds ago... I live in Canada and I am using the rogers network. I got my unlock code, and I successfully unlock my G1!!!
The only problem now... is that I gotta activate it. I have told Rogers to block my internet (and my data) services earlier when I had my iphone, since I don't have the money to pay for data charges. Now when I try to log onto my Gmail account to activate my G1.... I can't...
Is the only way to activate my G1 to use "edge" or "3g"?
or is there some way to go through wifi?
or is there some other alternative??
thnx in advance![]()

I would Try activating through wifi first. Though for some reason I have a gut feeling that It wont work. If it does not, tell rogers to add an edge plan to your account. You shouldn't need 3g to activate. Cheers. Oh and BTW feel free to ask on the forums, there is always a couple of sour grapes in every batch of wine. Most of us here will gladly help you out.
I think your gonna need to have your data services unblocked at least temporarily. In order to get the phone up and running your gonna have to sync it to your gmail acct and im thinking you need some kind of data connection in order to do this. I could be wrong but i think that block you have on your acct maybe preventing you from doing this
In order to setup wifi you have to get passed the Google Account menu. I believe you have to have the data plan to at least get into the phone
Me and Android are officially connected.
o damnit! lol
uhhh does anyone have any idea how much data is required for the registering process?
I plan on just temporarily disabling my data block.. which means they will most likely charge me 3 cents per kb
does anyone know how many kb it would take to register the phone? I already have a Gmail account. All I gotta do is sign in...
I also spoke to a T-mobile rep and they said that they cannot get that kind of information, however someone with a G1 can find out the amount of data for it by calling them...
Does anyone know? Can anyone figure out for me?
I believe it will sync your contacts and calendar upon activating the phone with your Google login. So it depends on how many contacts and appointments you have and how many numbers and stuff are associated with those. I suppose you could go into your Google account ahead of time, export everything to CSV file, delete your contacts, activate your phone, cut off your data plan again, and reimport your contacts and appointments. This would be a pain and you risk messing up your contacts and calendar. It depends on how motivated you are to save 5 dollars.
try holding up the phone and yelling at it very loud and when i mean loud, I mean Ninja Chuck Norris Android loud. Try using a bullhorn if you have a soft voice but it should do the trick. The phone ever question your authority again.![]()

I think it depends mostly on what the phone is syncing. I think it would really all depend on how many contacts or calender events that you have in your Gmail acct. Its also gonna try and sync your email to your phone as well so its really no way to get an accurate data count of whats gonna be pushed to and from the phone. To be honest I dont think it would be anywhere near 1mb but im only guessing here. Wish i could be more help to you
