I just wanted to chime in re: people talking about the mytouch being faster than the G1. It's not. The two phones have IDENTICAL hardware in terms of speed - the processor is exactly the same and the mytouch has the same amount of RAM as the G1. If you upgraded from the G1 to the mytouch for a speed increase, you're going to be thorougly disappointed.

I was able to see display model in one of the Walmarts (only dummy phone though) and I must say that if the finish of the phone is the same as the one I checked out - I think that Android OS finally got representation in good device...
G1 was just Beta tester I am certain and now we are getting Magic, Hero, etc... I like Hero even better but it will pass some time for me to get rid of E71 - so like I sad several months ago you never know when I will be back to Android... Once I got all in one device that I currently have on E71 - I have no problem going back to Android OS - since I like it.... I just hope there will be more devices like Magic and Hero!!!!

You are correct about the portions of hardware that you have mentioned. However, you failed to mention the difference in the size of the ROM. The MT3G has twice the ROM of the G1, which equates to FOUR TIMES the amount of ROM available to the user for storage of programs. Unfortunately FLASH EEPROM slows down considerably as it gets close to being full and your files get fragmented. To me, this is one of the big problems with the G1. Once you get to the point where there is only about 10 MB of ROM free on the G1, the performance takes a nosedive.
While it is true that the MT3G will also become unbearably slow if you get to a point where there is only about 10 MB of internal ROM available, it is very unlikely to happen to most users. Unfortunately, with the G1, this problem is VERY common. Most of us here ran into this issue within a few days of receiving the G1. A rooted G1 with apps2sd reduces this issue significantly, though loading programs from the microSD is somewhat slower than loading them from the internal ROM.
You're exaggerating (you even admitted it), so I am not inclined to believe the issues are as severe as you claim. Let's assume your phone is really that slow ...you might want to take it back--mine's fine.
I noticed that I had not rebooted since the phone arrived and things were starting to lag a little. Since the reboot, I have not had any speed issues. I suppose it is probably a good idea if you try a lot of apps to do this once in a while.
