Hi.
I've got a new carrier unlocked G1 from the states and am trying to use it with a Vodafone UK SIM. The phone finds a signal but the setup program fails to communicate with Google servers. I defiantly have a data tarrif with Vodafone. I understand I may need to set some APN info for vodafone to work, but I can't see how to break out of the set up program to do this - I'm just stuck on the intro set up....
Anyone had this problem?
Any advice appreciated, I'm desperate to play around with it
Cheers
Craig

All you need in life : Love, air, water, a G1, 2 spare batteries and an unlimited data plan
Thanks - I found that now, works fine.
First impressions - very nice, but I'm already noticing that the battery is going to suck - hopefully after I've played with the WiFi/brightness settings...etc it will improve, but I'm a heavy user and can't see me getting 24 hours out of it :S
I'm tempted to get a 2200mah battery from eBay to counteract this, other than that, I haven't really found a fault with this phone yet
Do a search on battery conditioning before you start feeling negativity about the battery life.

I have been searching for ways to reduce power - turned screen brightness right down, turned off WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth, and it still drains battery phenomenally fast.
In fairness though, although I'm really disappointed in the battery life and looking forward to firmware updates and a new model of battery, after a night of playing around with the G1/Android, it's about the only serious fault I've got with it. The platform is very, very nice.
I'd agree, which is why I now carry a spare battery in my pocket. They way I use my G1, it doesn't last long, but neither would my laptop![]()
