setting up pop3 gmail account in the email app

i'm trying to set up a seperate gmail account as a pop3 instead of an imap. it works fine connecting as an imap but when i try setting it to a pop3 account, it does not work at all. it gives me a pop up that says

"cannot connect to server, unable to open connection to POP server."

help!

ok, after further tries, it only doesn't work whenever i try to do a manual set up of the account. it doesn't work for either the pop3 settings or imap settings. does anyone know how to find the right port number to make it work?
