got my RC 30
Users who know how, will *always* be able to gain true root access. I welcome rc30.
got my RC 30
We can still have root access and rc30, however, it will cost you some time and work on your part. The guys over at XDA have figured it out and I am running rc30 with root access as I write this. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443713
You better hurry though, because once you get rc30 your out of luck.
Also, it should be made known that once you do this, you will have to manually install every update thereafter.

I just got RC30 right now, I didn't know what it is, but I'm installing all the updates, like people have said, there will always be other ways. There's a reason for an update. This isn't the iPhone you don't have to worry about Google preventing users from getting the stuff they want. I'm sure they're working on the SD card issue, remember this is still RC, which is a Release Client, this isn't even Android version 1.0 yet.
i love updating.
keep it coming![]()

yea loving updates.......its gonna make ma G1 more sweetable.
I say, "Screw rc30," too. My G1 was working just fine before---no issues w/gps or anything else really. the battery life coulda been better, but i've always been able to charge it when needed.
early yesterday morning, though (i.e. pre-morning coffee), the OTA update caught me off guard, and i just clicked accept before even thinking about checking up on discussion boards to see what updating would mean. and really, i didn't think i shoulda been too concerned about losing root access.
but ever since that goddamn update, my phone doesn't recognize any of the media i had stored on the sd card!!! i just got back from a traveling abroad----i have hundreds of pics on my sd card that i no longer have access to on my goddamn phone! wtf?!?! i also have a lot of music w/personalized ringtone settings---all f'n useless, now!...
i like my phone working the way i want it to work. and it did just that before rc30. if google doesn't fix this soon (and, given that it took me all of 4.5 weeks to receive this any OTA update at all, i'm not sure how quickly i can expect anything from them), there's gonna be serious blow dealt to my confidence in them.
i'm a competent computer/phone user---not a developer or a cs genius by any measure---but w/communities like this, i've never had problems get just what i want out of my gadgets. but does this have anything to do w/having root access to the phone? or is this just some bug that will hopefully be fixed soon? is there any advice anyone has?
thanks,
b.
oh, and i forgot to say that when i put the original sd card (the 1 GB card that came w/it) back in the phone, it'll recognize the media that i have on that one....
and, after moving things around in different folders on the new/larger sd card, it'll recognize the music files (now that they're in a different folder on the card). but i still can't get it to recognize my photos. and, even though it recognizes my music, i can't use Ringdroid on it to modify tracks like i could before. i can't record using the Rigndroid's sound recorder, because it says it's "Unable to access SD card."
and, of course, i can't use the camera----that oh so goddamn annoying "Please insert an SD card before using the camera" message is the only response i get to anything having to do w/the camera.
i f'n hate this rc30 bs.
please, help..... please

I have to ask...
Why would you NOT want to have the latest update for the G1?
So, you can have root access and install applications to your SD Card?
Are you telling me you are going to install all applications from G1?
What's going to happen when developers start charging for their applications?
Are you going to buy them all as well and put it on your SD card?
