As far as I am aware - NO.

The phone has no alerts (think flashing red light with blackberries) to tell you that you have missed something until you turn the phone back on and look at the notifications. Frankly this isnt a big deal to me at all, if I wanna know what is up with the phone I will look at it and know EXACTLY what I missed (if anything) the status bar is AMAZING - it is a great selling point and is how all phones from here on out should group info.

I really enjoy not having to turn my phone on for 10-15 seconds to let the phone fetch texts/IM's.

You don't have a blinking green light at the top of the phone when the screen is off and you receive something?

I agree with you. Just one of those little things I miss about my old phone. The green light flashes when you get a new message but it kinda sucks that the screen doesn't come back on.
Lead me not into temptation. I can find my own way...

I am very happy the green light flashes as a notification, not having anything visible would kinda suck.

Yes, there is an app in the market that will make your phone do this.
