O, the higher ups at T Mobile have told my wife (PR person who worked with SunCom) that Raleigh is expected to have 3G in Mid-2009 (June exactly). I have heard this from 2 separate T Mo VP's so feel confident.
i had the same problem in green bay, wi. i wasnt roaming with my blackberry or my boyfiends unlocked razr. luckily while i was there i had the razr with me and just used that. does anyone know why this happens? when in the courty outside green bay it usually says einstein pcs or cingular because tmobile uses their towers but with the g1 einstein doesnt even show up and when i try to connect the the att network that the g1 detects it wont let me.
What's strange is it shows T-Mobile as my mobile network, I will call them later and see if there is something I need to do on the phone or if it is something in the network settings.
There really is no difference though correct (assuming a Nationwide plan)? I feel I should be 100% confident in saying that... but I am not.
I'm in Columbia and I get the "R" all the time for roaming, but I got that before I had the G1 as well since all the towers were SunCom's. I would assume pretty soon the SunCom towers will be relabeled T-Mobile towers and it won't say we are roaming, but then again sometimes I get towers that register "Cingular" as well, so it could be a while. When I am in Aiken I don't usually get the roaming signal, however.
