    Default Ringtone from Mp3

I can not figure out how to make a ringtone from an mp3 yet. Does anyone know? I go to settings and then set ringtones and all i see are the defaults.

I think you have to make a ringtone folder on the sd card. Check the manual.

Just as jas0n said in his reply...

Go to your music and press and hold the song you want as your ringtone. The menu that comes up will give you the option of using the song as a ringtone. That will make the song the ringtone for your phone for the moment and also put it in the list of ringtones that are available to you in the future. I added many songs and condensed tones that I had already put on the SD card prior to getting the phone.
When you have a bunch of songs and tones in the ringtone list, you can go to your contact list and make personal ringtones from that list.
Also...if you want to make ringtones out of a part of a mp3 you can download Wavepad (do a google search). I use it to edit out a specific part of a song that I want and then save it to a folder on my computer. You can then put it on your phone with the USB cable that came with the phone or use a card reader.
    Hope this helps.

Referring to the SD card there is a folder named "music" (obviously you'll have to create it if you are using a new SD card).

    Page 106 in the manual...

If you want, create folders within “music” to organize your music further.
If you want to use certain music files as phone, notification, or alarm ringtones, then create the
    following folders:
    • ringtones - Music files copied to the “ringtones” folder will display in the phone (incoming
call) ringtone menu. (Read more about setting a song as a phone ringtone in “Create
    ringtones from songs” on page110.)
    • notifications - Music files copied to the “notifications” folder will display in the notifications
    ringtone menu.
    • alarms - Music files copied to the “alarms” folder will display in the Alarm ringtone menu.
Note: If you do not want a ringtone to appear in your music Library but you do want it to be
available as a ringtone, then create the “ringtones”, “notifications”, or “alarms” folder outside
    your “music” folder.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

May have to reboot the phone so they can be seen and picked.

I believe I have the answer you're looking for.

Instead of creating a "Music" folder, create a folder called "Media".

Inside of it, create a folder called "Audio".

Inside of that, place your mp3's. If you want them to be used as ringtones, put any or all inside another sub-folder called "Ringtones".

Storage Card/Media/Audio/(mp3's you have) or Ringtones/(mp3's you have)

In this way, you won't have to click on each one and "Use as Ringtones" in order to qualify it.

Hope this helps, it sure works for me.

you can also download the app called "ringdroid"

excellent app allows you to edit mp3's and then use the edited mp3 as a ringtone or other notification sound

pretty easy... made my first ringtone tonight... cropped down the song from Overhaulin and have that as my main ringtone now... Now to figure out how to make custom text sounds and all that

Just plug G1 into puter, drop mp3 into music directory, then on phone goto music, select song, hit menu and set as ringtone... done

I used Audacity to cut song and encode with lame enkoder
