    Default Recent G1 Experience

My wife had an ancient Sidekick 3 that had just about kicked the bucket.. I decided to get her a post Xmas present in the form of a new G1.

So I go to Tmobile, grab a black G1 and come home, set it up, etc.

As I'm showing her around the phone, I notice a dead pixel. Sigh.

So next day I do an exchange. I look for dead pixels, but dont see any.

Bring phone home.. later that evening, in dimmer light- I see THREE dead pixels. Grrrr...

So go back to store, try another. Test it in a darker corner of the store- dead pixels.

    Another- dead pixels.

and then finally, a third for the day (#5 total) and that one is OK.

    yikes man.. talk about QC.

The sliders and keyboards all felt good though. None of these had the headphone adapter, and all had RC30.

In the shuffle, I managed to plop an extra back cover into the bag.. heh.

At least at this Tmobile store, the people there were nice about it- other places I've been to were real unhelpful..

dead/stuck pixels are common on all devices that have an lcd screen, even on the iphone. its just the luck of the draw. my g1 has 1 stuck pixel on the far right side. its not a big deal to me.

I got my g1 at costco so I have 3months to exchange it, but its just a big hassle and I'm not that bothered by it.

Just ignore the dp. You'll get use to after a while. Don't let those dirty little dp ruin your night.

Heh well, I figured it was common enough, but none of the first 3 G1s idealt with had dead pixels, and I was forking out hard-earned bread, so I figured I'd give it a try.

This tmobile location was suprisingly cool about the whole thing.

A good way to find dead pixels is to go into a dim area, turn on the camera and then put the lens very close to or up against the wall- dead pixels wont turn black.

At least I got a new back for my old G1 - which got a cracked lens cover..

I understand where u are coming from, but there's no guarantee that the next one will be any better. Besides the 1 stuck pixel, my current g1 is perfect in every other way. Keyboard feels great, buttons feel great, and no squeeking, so I don't want to trade one problem for potentially another one.

I use to be super ocd about these things when I was younger, but now that I have 2 kids that wreck everything, I'm more tolerant now. :-)

Wow, it must suck that everything you see has dead pixels... perhaps you should check your eyes for dead pixels o.0

I haven't seen any on my G1 yet... but my laptop has a stuck pixel; oh well, my appointment's coming up anyway lol.
