notification sound

please help

New to android and HTC. Picked up a Hero (G2 - touch as i'm on t- mobile) on friday.
Not to many problems so far except i can't change the annoying t - mobile message / notification tone. Argh it drives me mad. I changed it under:

settings > sounds and display > notification sound

its shows as the tone i selected but still sounds as t mobile standard.

any other pointers for a newbie are appreciated as i'm feeling slightly overwhelmed...

Really? Did you try to use your trackball? You mean even if you select a different tone it still does the default? Try re setting your phone.

yeah the touch and hero are different phones.

are you trying to set the notification for the right thing? meaning if you want the notification for text you should go to the menu>settings in text, if you want gmail you should go to the menu>settings in gmail, etc. only the main call settings are in the main menu>sound notifications... maybe that helps?

You change the text notification sound under Messages > Settings > Select Sound.

The notification sound from the general menu changes that sound for things like email and Meebo messages, not text messages.

In the UK, T-Mobile has named the Hero the G2 Touch.

My hero/G2 touch should be arriving in the next couple of days, I've been lurking here for a while in anticipation.
