Notification Ringtone Volume

Is it possible to change the volume of the notification ring tone, or set it to only vibrate?

If not listen up Android Developers! I don't need a loud noise every time I get a notification, as I get a fair number of them.

Like for receiving text's and IM's etc..? Would be great to hear an answer on this, as I receive quite a bit as well.

So, louder and consistently.... I can't really hear my txt notification unless my ear is up to the speaker...

Hi everyone. I know this is an older topic, but I came across it today when I was trying to do the same thing, reduce the volume for notifications without changing the ringer volume (by default the two are linked).

Anyway, here is the solution for Android 2.0 (tested on my Droid).

Go to Menu > Sound & Display Settings, and select Ringer Volume. Below the ringer volume slider, uncheck the box "Use incoming call volume for notifications". This will add a second slider which allows you to set a notification volume. This volume will not change when adjusting the ringer volume.
