    Default Noob question

    Hello All,

How do I switch from 2g to 3g on my Eris. Does is happen automatically? I have read on this forum how others turn off 3g to save battery life. I have played around with the settings but I have not found how to do this.

Congrats on your new Android, I'm going make it easy for you...

Go into the Market and download one of the 2G/3G toggle Widgets or Useful Switcher (type widget while in the market)

go to settings > wireless controls > mobile networks

check or uncheck "use only 2G networks"

Okay maybe I am still confused... when I open the 2g/3g widget it opens a page from my settings menu. It reads
    Network Service
    automatic
Data Roaming --- with a check box

Enable always on mobile --- with a check box

I am assuming the by unchecking these boxes I am moving to 2g service and hence will use less power, extending my battery life... is that correct

Yessir! - When using 2G/Edge it doesn't drain your batter as fast, unlike 3G

But if you're going to download from the market 3G is needed, that's if you're not close to a wifi area

Even when I check the boxes that would seem to indicate I am on 3G the Power Manger widget says I am working 2G only. I am not experiencing any problems using Market and whatnot but I am curious as to why I do not seem to be running 3G
