Does anyone know if the MyTouch has Android 1.5 or 1.6 on it? Does anyone know for sure if it will be updated to 2.0 or higher as the rumor mill is saying?
Actually, is the MyTouch the best TMo phone to get? The Behold 2 has much better hardware but the MyTouch has been rooted and should be more customizable. It sounds like the Behold 2 might never be rooted.
Thanks!

I understand that this threat is extremely old and the only people getting this result is from ones where they would like to know if what their MyTouch 3G currently has and if they should upgrade it to something newer. My personal story is this (I will make it brief as I can)... I did upgrade my MyTouch 3g from 1.5 to 1.6 last year and have had problems with my phone the past year. As a final attempt to root my phone to make it faster before I purchased a new phone, I rooted it. This let me downgrade back to Android 1.5. I wanted to load a 2.0 (or later ROM) on my phone to see how it worked but found that 1.5 ran ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY on my phone. I will gladly run 1.5 even though I don't have my apps I had on my 1.6 OS until my contract is up and/or ready to select a new phone/plan/Android OS.
My problems with 1.6? It usually took about a minute to 3 minutes to open an app/close one. I couldn't type at ANY normal pace. My phone would crash if I were doing something like Google Maps and getting a phone call. I don't know how I resisted from smashing my phone.
After rooting it and installing the original 1.5, my phone is as quick as the ones that are currently being advertised (running the latest Android OS's). Yes, it's a pain that I can't use the apps I was used to the past year but there are more basic similar ones that run EXTREMELY FAST compared to their new counterparts.
In summary, if your MyTouch 3G is slow... you may not want to bother upgrading to a ROM that requires all sorts of procedures when you can easily downgrade it back to the original 1.5. This will easily allow you to wait the several more months of waiting until your contract is done or figure out which new phone/plan/operator you want to go with. I will also mention that since I've been with TMobile for so long, I'm still entitled to unlimited data at 25 a month as long as I don't change my plan. If you have to go with a new one, you may have to downgrade your DL limits.
