Can I use a mini-usb charger from Motorola to charge the G1 since its also miniusb. I was also looking at the portable charger from Motorola, the P790, and that seems like it can charge it as well.
??? Thanks.
The manufacturer original charger should always be used when talking wall plug in my opinion... but I don't abide by that.. If I hope in someones car and they have a motorolla charger hooked up, their phone is coming off so mine can go on :-P
I would NOT hook up an off brand unplugged recharger as the voltage could be way different than spec..
All opinions here though, will be interesting to see what someone who actually knows says.
motorola should work
Buy the rumor, Sell the news.
i used all sorts of mini usb chargers wall, car, camera, etc for my blackberry for 2 years... didnt seem to care about "different voltage" and such.
All USB or mini USB based chargers should be 5 volts by design
As long as it is 5volt your fine, i used my old htc touch charger, and my old motorola q car charger
xtrememac car charger for iPhone works, with G1 usb cable of course.
There is something funny going on with the chargers. If you look at the charger supplied with the G1, it has a strange profile preventing it from being used on other mini-USB phones.
I've tried charging it off 2 different Motorola mini-USB wall-wart AC chargers and it does not recognize them at all. However, all of my Motorola mini-USB car chargers work. Anyone know why this might be?
Just an FYI, the T-mobile store (at least the one by me) has the P790 on clearance for only $19.99!!!
These were $50 when they first came out and even online I still see them for > $25!!!
Just picked one up and now it's charging...can't wait to use it on my next trip in a few weeks.
Standard Motorola charger can put out ~300-500 mA. The one comes with G1 is 1A. It will charge but take longer.
