Starting fresh, I think the phone has something like 65mb. I have a few apps installed (counting from my downloads, 23 to be precise) and am down to around 45mb. But heavy surfing can cut that down drastically, as well as gmail, calendars, contact pics, etc. I just mentioned this in another post, but yes...the ROM in the phone is REALLY low for such a device. Most other touch phones are sold with at least 1gb of ROM, especially at the G1's retail price point. By comparison, the Touch Pro has 512mb ROM and 288mb RAM, the Touch Diamond has 256mb ROM & 4gb internal storage and 288mb RAM and the Iphone has 8/16gb ROM/Internal Storage and 512mb RAM.
I guess the trick for us early adopters is to not load the phone with unnecessary apps. We can only hope and pray that at some point, Google releases firmware that allows the phone to siphon the SD for ROM and RAM storage.

Including all the software preinstalled on the phone, I have 72 apps.
I had about 98 at one point, but i just did a master reset and reinstalled the apps that i use, and now im at 67 apps, with 30mb free ( some of the memory still tied up with the browser, android market, and a few other apps )
