Lock screen in landscape mode?

Does anyone know how to lock the screen of the myTouch 3G in landscape mode? I like to lie in bed and read, but I prefer to use the landscape mode because my eyes are getting older. Unfortunately, if I lie on my side, that means the phone is upright, even though it is landscape as I look at it, and it switches to portrait mode.

This was not a problem with the G1 since all I had to do was open the keyboard.

I've tried to lock it in landscape mode, but whenever I turn off auto-rotate, it changes back to portrait.

Any ideas what to do other than wait for an update?

if you using the browser to read something off the internet then there is a setting to flip the orientation and it will stay that way. Else if you using a 3rd party app i would check the settings of the app to see if there is a setting to flip the window orientation so it will stay landscape vs portrait..

Thanks, Jsteed59! That sounds perfect, as I'm mainly referring to the browser.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to find the setting to which you are referring. I've dug around a couple of places in the browser, but I do not see it. I'm using the browser that comes with the phone.

Would you mind giving me more specific instructions on how to set this? TIA!

@Jsteed59 - I believe the setting you are referring to is only present in RC33 or earlier builds.

Browser - menu - more - flip orientation

It's certainly not present in my 1.5 Rogers Magic build.

I don't see anything equivalent in the Market Place to manual rotate the screen, just widgets to enable/disable automatic orientation, however in theory it should be possible to force a rotation using an application/widget, someone just needs to create it....
