Just got the G1..have some questions regarding cupcake

Thanks guys. I'm back. I am using the US phone with 1.5. How should I begin?

Which one should I install, would you say is a really good version to use? I want one with multi touch support and app2sd for sure and other goodies are always nice...also the guide http://androidandme.com/2009/05/guid...stall-cupcake/ if this is the one i follow for step four can i use whatever build I want to?

I think its a pretty good and easy one to follow . After you obtain root and finish the steps , you could flash any rom you want , as often as you want . Just be careful with the special spl , that you don't really need , only for a few roms . Most don't need it . I recommend cyanogens builds , and flashing cyanogens recovery.img . Cyanaogens roms are lighning fast and do apps to sd automatically for you , you just need to partition your sd card to ext2/3 (which you can do through the phone , through cyanogens recovery . Easy !

when I plug in the device i can do everything open folder to view files etc..but everytime i hit format it says insert disk into G (my drive letter for the card) but I formatted it from the G1 so it's formatted FAT...does it need to be FAT32? Also What do u mean special spl i have no clue what that is what is it needed for? Where can I get the recovery.img from cyanogens and when would i flash that after the update or be4? and how would i partition it thro the recovery?

first of all , your sd card is alright as it is if it is fat(lol) . special spl , cyanogens pimped out recovery , partitioning ....... lets get rooted first . everything else will follow .

ok , haykuro's 1.33.2005 special spl , also called danger spl , is used in a few roms , you dont need it . its one of the few ways that a g1 could be bricked .
cyanogens rom . its super fast ! it does apps to sd for you provided you have a partitioned sd card . its better and a lot more advanced than any rom out there , rooted or stock . and its feature rich ! here is a link to his thread on xda-developers

bookmark these links , you will need them later . please read them , they contain a lot of good info and the downloads you need . i suggest signing up for xda , its free , and you can only download as a member . first is first , dont let this confuse you . concentrate on rooting and this is next . something to look forward to .

F*CK update went well but now when I sign in it says prob There is a problem communicating with the Google servers

try again . which radio did you do ? get the radio update here..
