Thank you for this, I can't wait to use mine lol
hey guys i've been lurking around this forum for awhile and i have finally decided to post about my time with the G1. So i got a call from my cousin (tmobile employee) and he told me to come down and mess around with the phones and check out the 2 colors.
Hardware: the htc design is not up to par with other phones being released nowadays but its certainly feels strong and not to heavy. The back has somewhat of a tacky feel almost like the 1st gen. Zunes. The hinge swings out really smooth and seems like it can hold up pretty well. No headphone is a mistake on htc's part but we can all work with the headset that they package with it. The body is pretty thinck compared to my iphone in its bear bones, but with the addition of my rubber skin on my iphone, its pretty much the same. The black one is a very plain matte finish. It almost bores me with its looks but of course android itself makes up for that. The bronze really surprised me. It has a semi glossy finish on the face and a matte finish on the back. It honestly doesnt look brown or bronze. In certain light it looks almost like a a charcoal grey with a a little hint/tint of army greenish. I wish i had my dlsr to take clear pics but you guys honestly have to see the demo version in store to check out the colors. The touch screen if very responsive and moves with ease. A few hiccups on browser but nothing to go crazy about. Keyboard takes a little getting use to due to fact the keys are not really raised. The travel on the keys are not great either but you can totally get use to it after awhile. Trackball is an awesome feature and moves with precision and its super smooth.
OS: I didnt really mess around to much but the system runs nice. No hiccups and no crashes from what my cousin says. He plays with it all day and says its super easy and takes no time to download apps onto the phone itself. The 3g in that area is not to great and you have to go outside for it work nicely. I managed to get a connection and run Browser and its pretty slick. The whole magnifying tool is not bad at all but multi touch would have been a nice addition. Apps take no more than 20 second and its up and running. Shop savvy is awesome and is a awesome way to find deals and such on the fly. Youtube is sick on this phone and everything from comments, rating, and description is accessible through this phone. The Amazon Mp3 Store is pretty much what you find in most mp3 sites. It gives you the option to preview and download just like its competitor. Maps wasnt running right and compass mode was sort of off. It would'nt really move with my hand gestures and that may be because i was inside using a really bad 3g connection.
Overall the phone is a good start for Android and hopefully we see a bunch more people jump on and start developing Apps for this sucka. We shall see what else is in store as for hardware next year. Here are some pretty weak photo attempts with my iphone. Any other questions just pm me or post here. Oh yea sorry no white yet guys...The manager said q4 or q1

Nice review man, thanks. you getting one?
i'm glad i got black, it looks matte, and i don't like glossy
from those pics... i dont like the glossy browns... im glad i got black.
i sure am getting one...first on the list and setting up my contract the day before and picking it up the next morning.
Thanks for the nice review! Also, THANKS for posting a picture of the two colors side-by-side. I'm getting one of each and it helps to see them better. I think the brown gives new meaning to the term "candy bar phone"!![]()
