The 'airplane mode' let's you shut down all networks.
I wonder if it is possible to shut down only the t-mobile specific phone communication (G3 and voice) but leave WIFI on.

I haven't found a way yet. Annoying. May have to go look at the source, if it's even in there.

I never found the time to go through the source in sufficient detail to find the answer to this. I *did* find a thread over on xda-developers with a new (to me) AnyCut shortcut to the Phone Info activity wherein one can turn off only the GSM radio, leaving the WiFi and Bluetooth radios alone. See post #5 in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445857. There's also a nice shortcode sequence (I think it's called) which will get you to a screen so you can display battery status as well as the aforementioned phone status. Just bring up the dialer and enter *#*#INFO#*#* (post #9).

Now you can go into Airplane Mode and keep the wifi enabled while at it. (and hopefully pretty soon, bluetooth enabler as well, I'm fixing it)

This application will basically let you change android's system settings so when you go into Airplane mode, you can still connect to a wi-fi network.
It's available in the market now for free.
