Post important info about your internal memory and market memory usage

ok, i was really worry about the small internal memory that G1 comes with(256mb) and we only get to use 71mb for applications or anything that's have to be storage in the internal memory, on top of my apps memory usage i have the market app taking an additional 9mb . i was down to 29mb, so i called tmobile, they don't know anything on how to deal with this. so i did this:

first factory reset: after factory reset i got 71mb left(internal memory)

check my market app usage: 0kb
sign up for the market: 72kb
    accessed to market: 320kb
    downloaded shop savvy: 492kb
    uninstalled shop savvy: 492kb
    accessed compare everywhere: 500kb
    installed compare everywhere: 500kb
    uninstalled compare everywhere: 500kb
    reinstalled compare everywhere: 508kb
left the market and accessed it again with download anything: 608kb
accessed the games by date without download anything: 760kb
accessed the games by popularity without download anything: 796kb
accessed web cam viewer : 804kb
installed web cam viewer : 804kb
    accessed park mark: 836kb
    installed park mark: 836kb
    accessed ring control: 988kb
    installed ring control: 988kb
then i went and look back into ring control and the market memory went all the way up to 2mb of market memory usage. so i went and did a second factory reset.

second factory reset: after factory reset i got 71mb left(internal memory)

after it came back on it automatically downloaded 3 of the 4 applications (weird) that i previously downloaded without accessing the market: 12kb
    accessed the market:104kb
    accessed the market apps: 208kb
accessed the market apps by popularity: 308kb
accessed the market apps by date: 352kb
then got out of the market and went back to all apps: 424kb
    accessed the market games: 428kb
accessed the market games by date: 580kb
accessed the market games by popularity: 624kb
then got out of market games and went back to all apps: 624kb
    accessed shop savvy: 632kb
    installed shop savvy: 632kb
    accessed compare everywhere: 640
    installed compare everywhere: 640kb
went back to shop savvy( in all apps): 640kb
then went ahead and installed 24 apps without leaving the market, after all of them were installed: 4mb of market memory usage (58mb left from internal memory), then i went and did a third factory reset

third factory reset: after factory reset i got 71mb left(internal memory)

turn the phone on: it didn't automatically download anything
    market memory usage: 0kb
    accessed the market: 192kb
accessed the market all apps by date and popularity: 388kb
accessed the market my downloads: 876kb
downloaded from my download history park mark: 1004kb
then from my download history(without leaving this page) i download all the previous 24 apps: market total memory usage 2mb(60mb internal memory left)

bottom line the market application does eat your internal memory(some people said is virtual memory, is not) also every time we access an application in the market it will take from your internal memory, because it will add to the market application memory usage. so avoid looking at applications that look useless(like looking at the ratings first, i know that's hard to do, but that will make developers create better apps cuz if this stays like thit and they don't fix it, we won't be able to even take a look into the apps to avoid losing memory. also if you can and your are not going to lose any important info or if you can back up what you have in your phone, just do a factory reset and then go to your downloads history and download all your apps again without going in and out of the market, before i did this i had 29mb left of internal memory now i have 60mb and the market memory usage was 9mb now is 2mb. i also didn't installed some of the useless apps that i had before, but now i feel a lot better....

    update:

i just reset my phone again just to double check, this is what you need to do:

    1. make a list of the apps that you have already installed(apps are gonna be listed in your download history anyway, but just in case)
    2. proceed to factory reset
    3. go the the market>mydownloads>install all your apps again(but do it from your downloads history, that way you save some data usage)

    my results:

    a. 31 apps installed
    b. market data usage 2mb(use to be 9mb the first time)
    c. internal memory left 60mb(use to be 29mb left)

everything in your sd micro card is safe when you do the factory reset i only had music and pictures on my memory card and after 3 resets everything was there, so try to send any thing you want or can to your memory card( i didn't remove the memory card to do the resets)

Mind summarizing what this is about? I don't really understand what you're getting at.. I don't think I can just avoid looking at info on Apps in the Market and your making it seem like by just browsing (something the phone should handle fine) will soon fill up my internal memory?

well well well, "bottom line the market application does eat your internal memory(some people said is virtual memory, is not) also every time we access an application in the market it will take from your internal memory, because it will add to the market application memory usage. so avoid looking at applications that look useless(like looking at the ratings first, i know that's hard to do, but that will make developers create better apps cuz if this stays like thit and they don't fix it, we won't be able to even take a look into the apps to avoid losing memory. also if you can and your are not going to lose any important info or if you can back up what you have in your phone, just do a factory reset and then go to your downloads history and download all your apps again without going in and out of the market, before i did this i had 29mb left of internal memory now i have 60mb and the market memory usage was 9mb now is 2mb. i also didn't installed some of the useless apps that i had before, but now i feel a lot better...."

and what u see here is that every time i enter the market :
check my market app usage: 0kb
sign up for the market: 72kb
    accessed to market: 320kb
    downloaded shop savvy: 492kb
    uninstalled shop savvy: 492kb
    accessed compare everywhere: 500kb
    installed compare everywhere: 500kb
    uninstalled compare everywhere: 500kb
    reinstalled compare everywhere: 508kb
left the market and accessed it again with download anything: 608kb
accessed the games by date without download anything: 760kb

    installed park mark: 836kb

    installed ring control: 988kb
then i went and look back into ring control and the market memory went all the way up to 2mb of market memory usage. so i went and did a second factory reset." the market app was getting bigger and it takes from your phone memory, got it, u follow me? so if you have low memory problem, what i recommended was this " just do a factory reset and then go to your downloads history and download all your apps again without going in and out of the market" because of this "before i did this i had 29mb left of internal memory now i have 60mb and the market memory usage was 9mb now is 2mb. i also didn't installed some of the useless apps that i had before, but now i feel a lot better.... " good enough ?

You should be able to install apps on your SD cards too. Or they should have just made the phone with a lot of memory like 2gb or so.
