dont really need a source, the device hardly changed from the demo/tester/beta/google developers hidden device that was showin in videos and countless articles in the past... The device hits a price point, and its holding up well..
the samsung behold and instinct are all priced reasonably well but they are POS....

Yeah, but to state that it's Google's idea for this sub-standard hardware seems very un-Google-like to me. It sounded more like T-Mo needed a device around the USDxxx price point, told Google that they'd place an order for yyy number of phones if they could deliver a handset running Android, with a slide out keyboard, capacitative touchscreen, etc etc etc, and HTC stepped up to the plate

to the OP, maybe I'll change my mind if things start dropping off it, I've only had the phone 2 days but I think it's pretty nice. Sure, shame about the 3.5" jack, but I knew that before I bought it, and I dont use my phone for music.

AFAIK that's an Android software limitation. The phone could do 216K colors.

I personally don't care much at all for the hardware. Creaky and an overall cheap feeling makes my case for subpar hardware an easy one. My feeling is that T-Mobile was the one pushing the release for this "reference design" to meet the deadline of the massive 3G rollout.
