    Default i have an iphone

Hey guys whats up. I currently have an iphone that i hacked and all that jazz blah blah blah blah. ok now i was wondering if i should really switch from the iphone to the g1. after everything i have read it now comes down to the video player. i saw a review that showed the videoplayer as really choppy and the video couldnt keep up with the movie and that basically scared me away. Now do you think that was due to the beta player he was using or can the phone not process video that well? but im back and want some of your F*ckin awesom guys' opinion lol. I just want to know the HONEST pros and cons and no propaganda. I'd really appreciate it. PLus when you insert the sd card does it take a long time for the card to load. i used to also have a helio ocean and it kind of sucked. heres the link to that video review i saw. the sketchy video part is at 9:53

I think you'll love the phone. If there was choppiness in a video it could be explained by poor encoding or the actual beta video player software itself. Keep in mind more video apps will be available soon as well and this phone is fully capable of playing properly encoded videos well. Think .avi, .mpg4, and H.264.

As far as the SD card goes, it loads pretty well for me and I'm on a regular old 1GB memory card. Loading times all depend on whether the SD card is High Speed or not. Most SDHC cards are.

Regardless, I've had the iPhone to play with for a long time and also love my iPod touch, but my G1 takes the cake for me.

I never take my SD card out now that I have my 8gb card in it... so I can't really answer that question... But I have used the "mount/unmount SD card" option and it seems to instantaneously know that it is in/out, and the media is immediately available afterwards.

As for the video player, I have had zero problems with it. That doesn't mean you wont - just that I haven't. I think all of my videos that I've played were in mp4 format, if that helps any.

That being said - this phone is nowhere near as sexy as your iPhone. The UI for all media (music / videos) is not as pretty or as functional as the iPhone's... But as far as it actually having "problems" - I've had none.

I say, make the jump. If for no other reason that the fact that the G1 and Android itself is new, and fun, and exciting. If you are contemplating the G1, you obviously aren't sublimely happy with the iPhone, so why not give it a shot? I really think you'll be impressed.

Hope this helps! And welcome to the forums! Hope to see you get a G1 and post often!

I run a 16gb class 2 and video plays fine on mine so it was probably the encoding they used, maybe used a slow framerate or something, I don't know, but I love watching movies on my G1.

I dont take out my sd card, i havent gotten my 8gb yet, but i will soon.

As far as the video being choppy, it could be the format i noticed it when i used an mp4 format but i converted my movies to 3gpp and i see no issues at all. that format also takes up less space on your sd card.

also there is information that the g1 will be receiving an ota update so it will have a virtual keyboard in 2009.
physical keyboard / virtual...its the best of both worlds to me.

I also had a hacked iphone, had it for about 6 months, then i got bored with it.

    Pros:
    Open source
Way's to get around the battery problem
Versatile (thanks to it being open source)
    So far, free open market

    Cons:
Certain features can drain battery life
doesn't automatically flip screen when you tilt the phone, you need to slide the screen to reveal the keyboard to do that
Crappy IM clients other then Google Talk (mainly they wont stay connected all the time)

Now, I love this phone and I don't really complain too much about it. My only gripe really is about the AIM client on it. However it doesn't really bother me too much. Also some of the cons are just complaints I've observed from other users and my own observations of using the phone. I had to cut the list short though, because I can't really say what I wanna say. lol

My gf has the iphone so obviously I've played around with it quite a bit and I just got the g1 yesterday. So far I love it and my gf wants one too now lol. I don't think anyone can say if _you_ will like it better or not...that's for you to decide.
