    Exclamation Huge MMS problems!!!

I have cancelled the data plan because I utilize wi-fi 99% of the day...but now when I receive a picture message via text message it won't download it. I think it tries to connect via 3g or 2g to retrieve the photo...anybody know a way around this? Or is anyone else experiencing this?

the G1 plan is needed in order for the data services to work including mms, my girlfriend had the same problem, you need the G1 plan for the phone to function period.

I highly doubt that your MMS is not working because of a lack of data plan. First of all they are totally different. Thats what a text message plan is for. Text messaging plans usually include MMS and SMS. A data plan would be need if you want to browse the internet on your phone or receive email and some applications may need it to provide you data from the internet. Now this is the case for all the other phones i have had in the past as well as for multiple carriers. Correct me if am wrong here...

If that were the case then you connect to wifi your picture would show up in your MMS. Anything you can do on your 3g/2g data plan you would be able to do with your wifi.
cant put this damn phone down...

Operator usually place their MMS Server in their internal network, meaning it is unreachable from the internet because it is using an internal IP (like 192.168.1.2).

MMS is a 2 step process, and it works by first sending a "MMS Notification" message to your handset (which includes a download link ex. http://192.168.1.2/mms_downoad_id), and second, "MMS Notification" kick start the MMS application in your handset and trys to download the actual content via "MMS Retrival" process.

MMS Notification is OTA (over the air) so that's why you are able to receive the message. Because you canceled your data plan, you weren't able to connect to their internal network via 3G, so you're download will failed.

I can confirm when i am on my wifi, and i click download on a mms, it does not work, i disconnect from wifi and click download and it works, so i think it needs the 3g/2g or edge connection.

Here is your answer to this question or problems OP directly from Ninja Chuck Norris Android. Simply take your phone down to the local Tmobile retail store and beat the associate senseless over the head with the phone, take his keys and open the security gate in the back and take a G1 that works. Simple? For the Ninja Chuck Norris Android it is.
