HTC Hero E-mail problem

Hey,

I just got My HTC hero about 2 days ago. So far i love pretty much everything about it.

but....

I've been having trouble with my e-mail, more specifically with my G-mail.

At first i didnt notice any problem, so i dont know if its been doing this from the beggining. but now when i get an e-mail it can take 10-20 minutes before it syncs with my phone and sometimes the e-mails will not sync at all until i open the gmail app and manually click the sync button.

does any one else have this problem or does any one know how to fix it?

EDIT: with some further investigation, i have found that this is most likely some how related to a WiFi problem. While on 3G(HSPA) it works fine, but while connected to wifi and with mobile network off this problem occurs. The WiFi problem seems to extend its self all the way to the youtube app, which also does not seem to work well if at all on WiFi. The WiFi seems to lose connection frequently and seems to prevent youtube and e-mail from working correctly. I am resetting my router and phone now to see if that helps.
