HTC G1 - Home button/System recovery issue

i am having trouble getting into the android system recovery PERIOD... when i hold down the home key when i start my G1 it jus goes to a screen with a phone and a triangle with an explimation point in it

I researched this problem and came across your forum. I purchased a G1 Dream phone on ebay. Originally working fine then it crashed was using gingerbread platform but could not recover it. Flashed a new Rom but stuck in recovery screen Press HOME to confirm and home does not work (every other key aborts). I came across this post and see that there was a custom recovery fix that uses the menu key in lieu of the HOME key. Please help.
