Reboot: The process of turning a computer system off and then back on again, to reload the software.
Is there a way to reboot without turning on and off the phone?

lol, Its not a reboot if you dont turn it off. Sorry thats a pretty basic question with the same answer every time. Must turn off to reboot no other way. Sorry.
I could be wrong, but I think he's asking if the G1 can be rebooted quickly, similarly to how a pc is restarted by clicking "restart" instead of saying "shutdown," then powering on the machine by the power button.
As far as I know, it cannot be quickly rebooted.
Some call me... Tim.
G1 running latest CM
8gb Class2 (my poor class 8 is toast.. booo!)
i'm sure thats what he was asking. it's stupid to have to hold down the power button to turn it off then hold it again to turn it back on. i don't know about other phones, but my tytn had a reset hole you could push your stylus into to make it reboot. better yet, you could reboot or power off with a tap on the screen . android aint so evolved yet.

Supposedly, you can simply type "REBOOT", hit Enter and the phone will reboot.
I used to be able to get it to work if i typed it really fast, but now i can't do it at all. Maybe it got removed in the latest firmware update?!?
Either way, imo opinion it's easier to just turn off/turn on the phone. Can be done one handed and doesn't really take long at all.
Yeah, if you have RC<30 or a patched RC30 with root hack, you could definitely type reboot to get a soft reboot. But as said, that requires many keystrokes and two hands.
Try hitting the End key + Call key + Menu key at the same time......
