to get hotmail to work you need to pay MS to enable pop/imap. read about it at live or hotmail.
I use hotmail for the majority of my emails. I was wondering if there was an app or a way to receive my emails from hotmail without using the browser. I tried k9 mail and the mail that comes with the g1 but hotmail doesn't work!

We have to PAY to receive our e-mail? I have a hotmail account which is free, and now I have to pay to receive my e-mails?
Your confused. You dont have to pay to receive your emails but you have to pay for the premium services. When you have a premium account they enable pop3 for your account. Gmail offers pop3/imap access for free but hotmail doesnt. Just one more reason to dump hotmail...
cant put this damn phone down...
I just have my hotmail forwarded to my gmail. It works great!
how do u have all ur mail forward to gmail it sounds like a good idea.
When I tried to foward to gmail, it only allows you to forward to another MS account that ends with msn.com, live.com, or hotmail.com unless you pay for premium service.
Hey. Im bumping an old thread. But this may be of help. I have got hotmail working flawlessly with the email on the g1.
I decided to register and post here, as this was the 3rd result when i searched hotmail on g1, so it should help a lot of people.
I dont have hotmail plus or anything. This is regular old free hotmail.
One problem i encountered though is it wouldnt delete my email from the phone. So i went to my inbox on my computer, deleted all emails (inbox, deleted, trash etc) so it was completly emptied, then refreshed the email client on the g1, sent a test email, and it works fine from then on.
Anyway. These are the details you need to input:
incoming:
pop3 server: pop3.live.com
port: 995
Security: SSL (always)
Outgoing settings:
smpt server: smtp.live.com
port: 25
security: TLS (always)
tick "require sign in"
Also make sure throughout the entire setting up process you make sure you recorrect your username and password as it will keep removing the @hotmail.com/.co.uk etc and using that in the server details.
Anyway. This worked perfectly for me and a friend of mine.
Hope i helped. And hope this wasnt a massive necropost >_<.

Well, it was a huge bump, but it was useful, thanks for posting. I have a hotmail account linked to my xbox live, would be nice if I could check it out, I use it for other purposes. I'll try it out tonight, thanks.
No problem.
Anyone else tried it then? Has worked for everyone so far. Some feedback would be awesome.![]()
