I've found mine gets pretty hot when I use wifi a lot. -this was before rooting.
Given my basic grasp of what rooting *is* I can't see how it would make things hotter, unless you've overclocked it...

I got such a fright this morning, my phone was super hot and it seems to be related to the alarm clock function and the vibrate function when they work together.
Firstly, it was vibrating off my bedside table, so I turned off vibrate, put it back on the table & went back to sleep (I need around 3 alarms to actually consider getting up)
Then it went on vibrate again while ringing - don't know why, so I fell asleep with it in my hand. Next time I woke up it was ringing & vibrating and it was hotter than I've ever felt an electronic device to be - even when charging. I really thought it was frying itself.
Question is, is this because I rooted the phone? Why won't the vibrate turn off (I turned it off in both the home window and in settings)? I've been using the phone as an alarm clock for 2 weeks now and this never happened till I rooted it.

hey lordyosch, yes that was my understanding about what rooting 'is' too. I wasn't using wifi at the time nor was it charging. I checked out older posts on overheating and they all relate to charging and wifi.
I swear I could have slow-fried an egg on my phone screen this morning!![]()
Maybe since you had fallen asleep with it in your hand you could have been laying on top of it some point while you slept. One time i fell alseep with it and ended up laying on it for a short while and it was super hot because the heat couldnt escape.
Who knows but its probably not from rooting.
Ok call off the fire brigade! Think hondamx525 is correct. I covered the phone for a few minutes while it was charging and it certainly does get hot.
But let it be a warning to all new Hero owners - you can sleep with other phones, but you can't sleep with a Hero...ever!
My one does get hot as well, especially on charge, but also when being used
but I don't think it get's as hot as these obviously do

Mine gets hot when playing youtube and charging.
RE your vibrate issue, if you turn the ringer volume up and down (in just from the home screen) and take it all the way down it goes to silent, then if you go down one more time it goes to vibrate... Just found that to be an interesting fact![]()

When I had to tether my phone for internet I got my battery up to 103 or 108 degrees [You can check the temp via menu, settings, about phone, ....I'm not finding it anymore? Idk it was there before..] and now no damage was done, but then again my battery life right now is in the gutters
That's no good i_maq, I want to stop it vibrating! Is it too much to ask that the Hero might do what the most bog standard phones can do. I only ever use vibrate on silent or at a gig or somesuch
If only I'd known how to take the phone's temperature!
If I don't autocombust at alarm time tomorrow, I'll let y'all know - that's how to be a true smoke signaller![]()
