I believe the new update does fix this.
This is my biggest annoyance with Android right now..
I'm browsing the web, and go back to the homescreen, only to stare at a black blank screen for 4 seconds, followed by my wallper with no icons for 5 more seconds..arrggh its frikkin driving me crazy.
I was hoping moving to jf1.41 and switching the browser cache to the sd card would solve it but nooooooo
Now I'm hoping that RC33 will address this issue.. anyone got any feedback on RC33 in this area?
I believe the new update does fix this.
It could also be the amount of apps you have stored, so until you either move cache & apps over to the sd card or RC33
You might want to delete some of the apps you don't use.

I guess ill find out soon enough.. it would be SWEET to have this problem gone..
I used to solve it by clearing the browser cache, but I now have that cache moved to the sdcard
Still does it though. Memory for lemmings will often fix it, but its just as much a pain to wait for that to work (bratag can you make that app auto run every once in awhile?)
killing some apps w/ the task manager speeds things up when i have this issue.
It is part of the Android process model/application lifecycle. I've had discussions about this with several people already. The problem is when applications that take up a lot of resources (like my browser for example) exit, they don't get removed. They hang on to the resources until another application claims them. What you're experiencing is the Launcher trying to get started, and in the process requesting resources that the previous application (the browser) still hangs on to.
A bad design IMO, but the genius level engineers behind Android would of course disagree.
The most annoying part about this model is that it makes the next application look bad and unresponsive (for example Steel's VK not reacting properly), while the previous app needs to clean up.

Sounds like a logical answer, Kolbysoft/Michael

That sounds about right to me too- thats exactly how it acts.. if you've been using a "heavy" app, and then go back to something else- it hangs for awhile.
I used to think it was just the cache, but its clearly more than that.
They need to rethink that for sure.. but perhaps with every google employee having a G1, it'll get done finally- what with all the cursing overheard in the hallways when people have to stare at their blank homescreens hahaha
Not the cache.. They need a better way of managing apps in the memory.
Its a good design in theory, but at the cost of usability.
I think a part of it is loading up all the icons on the 3 desktops.
Personally I have about 20 icons, and about 5 folders with about 6-7 in each.
Overall close to 55
