Is there a way to delete applications on my home screen that I do not use?

yes hold your finger on any item and it brings up other options... with desktop items it lets you move them if you drop it on the application tab it removes it

Yw, just so you know this doesn't remove the applications completly. To do that you need to go into settings then applications
