    Default Help with root JesusFreke

    Hey Guys,
I know there are a million threads out there on how to root and how to update and blah blah but I looked through them all and there are so many different ways. I am hoping one of you can help me. I am running a stock phone using RC33. I was to update to JF1.5 that came out yesterday/today. I have no clue how to root and cant find a simple how to (I know nothing about consoles and connecting to the computer to run the console and whatnot). So, what I am looking for if someone can please help is....
    1. Simple instructions on how to root
    2. Simple instructions on how/when to update the radio before installing cupcake
    3. How to install JesusFreke's update after that
    4. To know if Dev update can use wifi and GPS as I heard they cant before

THANKS GUYS. I hope someone can help me out so I can join the groups of rooted cupcake users.

go here to see a great tut!

    Code:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
    then after youve completed rotting/hack/blah

you can then download a adp file, rename that update.zip and flash your G1. so now you will have a dev phone build
.... now you will just have to wait for an oTA update or you can just manually install the cupcake from xda forums or from here.
once you have that file/cupcake/android1.5 dev update...
you can flash your G1 with that file

Okay, so, I root with that tutorial. Then do I flash the radio and do the cupcake update from root? Do I need to install another build and then jf's update? Does gps and wifi work in the dev/jf's build?

once you're rooted, you should be able to flash any update you like. but you may want to go to one of jf's earlier builds first, just incase. then do his 1.5 update. you can do the radio before,or after the update. make sure to remove the previous update.zip from your sdcard before flashing anything else.

Thanks, giving it a shot. Again though, heard wifi and gps dont work on the dev build. Is this the case in all of them? Also, there is a way to downgrade back if I end up wanting to get official cupcake later on down the road? Thanks guys, i would be stuck retarded to the subject if it wasnt for your help.

yes, you can revert back to stock rc29, then manually upgrade your way to rc33. just search this site if you need to revert. as far as gps and wifi, i doubt they are not working. i'm still on hr4 build, so i can't say exactly. but i doubt if anyone would use 1.5 if wifi and gps didn't work.

Thanks for the quick responses. In a matter of hours you walked me through this whole process. Now if I can just figure out why Im getting and I/O device error after formatting my SD Card..........Ill just format it again and see what happens.

and Undert8726 for future reference please use the "search" feature to find your answer, there's plenty of threads like you said to show you how to root, don't be lazy and help create another thread that just repetitive ask the same questions over and over.

Sorry Johnny, I tried all sorts of different forums but like I said in my first post, it gets so convoluted with 1000 different tweaks and ways and answers that I just got lost/frustrated and gave up. This time, I think I have it.
