That is a global setting within Exchange. The email administrators have full control over that.
My work doesn't have POP or IMAP set up for exchange which is ridiculous...does anyone have any idea on how to make my exchange account into an IMAP or get the Outlook Web Access to work in that way? man, that's the first drawback I see to the G1 and I haven't gotten it yet...

you should be able to use OWA on the browser. But yeah you will need to explicitly access the website.
Exchange/outlook integration/sync is not YET available.

I would love to have the ability to get my work email on my G1 so I would not have to carry a work issued Curve. Unfortunately my company will not allow you to connect a personal device to the BES.
the reason I want work email is so I don't have to get a black berry...I want this phone and I don't want to pay for the data plan...work pays for the data plan if I can get email...I guess I technically can get it if the web access connects correctly

OWA works fine on mine...
actually, saving 25 dollars a month, FTW...like I said, I don't have to pay the data plan if my work email comes to the phone...they will cover it...I would rather get 20 emails a day sent to my phone than pay 25 dollars a month for a data plan...small price to pay

I've had this same problem they disable that option for sync'ing between our exchange server and pop/IMAP accounts. The solution is create a contact in Active directory and have the contact point to both your gmail/yahoo/pop3/imap account and your exchange address
. This will copy your mail for exchange to you pop but wont sync like they would using active sync like a blackberry
. This is the work around that was developed hope it helps
Good luck
