Not sure what I may be doing differently, but I used mine for the first time, today. Yeah, I played with it at home, but never any actual practical usage.

    Anyway...

I turned on both the satellite and the "Use wireless networks" option, and input an address under the "Directions" tab.

It's true that there is no voice-prompted turn-by-turn, but it did, in fact, show me (blue dot) moving down the highway, and the screen moved along with me. It even showed the way points on the map (left turn here, right turn, departure point, destination point). I did notice that the more zoomed in it was, that the blue dot would go all the way to the end of the screen, and then the screen would shift over (and repeat).

It worked excellently for me, and tracked me almost perfectly. As I saw an exit coming up on my screen, so there was the exit coming up on the road. And the exit was passed at almost the exact same time on both screen and real time.

Sure, I'd love turn-by-turn, but this will work just fine for now. I did have 3G turned on, btw, but it seems that Edge was the best I could latch on to.

Now I just need to invest in a dashboard holder for my phone.

    Hope this helps any/someone.

I've had a few gps problems as well, but, my main question is, on the iphone you can choose what mode of transporation to get to your destination; ie, bus, train, etc, I was out of town with someone with the iphone and they were using google maps....what am I missing?

Keep your eyes on the road or you'll meet the trees

i would never use google maps as an alternative to gps navigation. you can barely zoom in enough to see the street names while you're driving. no voice turn by turn. i did have success having the map scroll as i was driving. but using it to get somewhere? not me. if you ever used a real gps navigation system, this would be like going back to vhs compared to blueray. in the first place, i don't think it was intended to be used as a nav system. it's more like a toy. street maps is the only thing worth looking at, and even that is pretty useless. useless, but cool nonetheless. i'm still using my garmin bluetooth gps10 with my tytn when i need to navigate. voice prompted everything. thank god i never ditched that winmo phone. it's still useful until g1\android catch up.
