is he a new tmobile user because im not sure if they still are but wasnt the g1 179 for new customers
I already have a G1 and am happy with it.
But, my friend was asking me recently about the G1. It seems that he's had a chance to play with it and likes it.
He found a deal for a week-old white G1 for $250ish and he was asking me whether or not he thought it was worth it. The other factor that he wants is to be able to receive work emails.
I told him that I thought that it was, but also told him more Android-based phones were coming out.
Your opinions on this?
Also, is it possible, if you know the correct information, to setup your work mail on the Android's email application? I haven't tried this for myself, as I keep my work phone separate from my personal one. I know that there are some people at my office that have been able to setup their iPhone to receive work emails, even though we don't support them.

Are you asking about POP3/IMAP or MS Exchange?
How do any of us random people on the internet know if the phone is right for your friend. We don't know either of you. For all we know you live in China on a mountian top where you only can receive dialup AOL.
To answer your e-mail question, talk to your IT support department and ask if its ok to use your phone to get e-mails. If it is then ask them for the pop3 server settings for your phone to use. Once you have that information try opening up the mail client on your phone and figuring it out, if you cant then come back here with your specific question.
There are no stupid questions, only people who refuse to use the SEARCH button.
Well, we have MS exchange at our office, but obviously there is no exchange support on the Android right now. But, it is still possible to access VIA POP3/IMAP, though the correct information is required to gain access to it. We don't support that function for the general user, but people still use it.
Existing Tmobile customer. Basically, what he's trying to do is move his SIM card from his work Blackberry (which was converted from his personal phone) to the G1. He doesn't want to have 2 phones.
Perhaps I should ask a more straight forward question. Can you find a new G1 for $250 at any online retailer without a contract?
As for your suggestion contacting IT, that is the department that both of us are in. It is not officially supported, but we do have the information required to setup a POP3/IMAP account. The question, is whether or not other people have tried and if it has worked.
Thanks, but has anyone tried to use the POP3/IMAP client for their work email that uses exchange?
I'm using Touchdown for my Exchange work email.
