This has been discussed a few times. I'd like an explanation.
That's because I pre-ordered it on Oct.1 at $179 and thus entered a 2-year contract starting on the day I pre-ordered it. According to T-Mobile, the contract starts the moment your place the order, not the moment you receive the phone. So now, if I decide to upgrade yet again, it would be at $299, since I'm under an existing contract. T-Mobile customers that aren't under any contract are the ones that get the best deal of $179, probably to prevent exisitng customers from choosing a different carrier.![]()

I just logged into my T-Mobile online account and now it says I can upgrade to G1 for $179. It used to say $299. I wonder if my contract/pre-order got removed from their system. I'm gonna call and find out...
...just got off the phone and they said I'm still on their pre-order list. Phew!

Never saw this thread, let me tell you what I was told by a T-mo rep, the day I ordered my brother's G1. I initially ordered him the G1 w/o Google. The next night I saw G1 Black w/ Google. I called them up and said what gives? He did some research asked his "coach" (supervisor) etc. and he ended up with the answer of. The G1 WITH Google come's with pre-loaded app's such as Google search on your desktop and other Google apps (cant remember what he listed) rather than without them, then I asked him I thought that comes on the phone regardless? And he said no you had to download them/install them yourself or something along those lines.
Sorry I can't be of more help, it was a while ago and all of ^^ is not VERBATIM of what he said...
He then mentioned something along the lines of if you don't have the unlimited data plan you didn't get all the feature's blah blah blah damnit i wish you could remember...but maybe that will provoke someone else to call and ask![]()
