Default G1 APN Settings for Cincinnati Bell

Alright, so this will probably effect 1/2 of 1% of you (if that), but it took me a couple of hours to figure out so hopefully I can save someone the hassle I went through getting data set up on the G1 for Cincinnati Bell Wireless.

    Name: CBW Internet
    APN: wap.gocbw.com
    Proxy: (not set)
    Port: (not set)
    Username: cbw
    Password: (not set)
    Server: 216.68.79.199
    MMSC: http://mms.gocbw.com:8080/mms
    MMS proxy: 216.68.79.202
    MMS port: 80
    MCC:310
    MNC: 420
APN Type: default (here I just typed in the word default, but I don't think this setting makes a difference)

The setting that made the difference for me was changing the MNC value the phone defaulted to (310 I think) to 420.

I haven't tried MMS, so I'm not 100% sure that those settings are correct, but edge data works and I'll get back to you if I have any luck with Cincinnati Bell's 3g. Supposedly Cincinnati Bell is going to be using the same 3g frequencies as T-mobile, but I haven't heard that from anything more official than a few forums and I don't have a 3g sim to test it out.

Please reply if you find any improvements to these settings or can report they work well for you. Us Cincinnati Bell customers have to stick together.

hmmm i live in cincinnati, but am with tmobile and i love it, but i used to roll with cincinnati bell and loved them too, just didnt like the phone selection.. thats awesome u got it working with a small company like cincinnati..

i didnt know cincinnati bell had 3g but if it uses tmobiles 3g network then does that mean cincinnati bell doesnt have 3g becuase tmo doesnt have 3g in cincinnati, i though cincinnati bell used att cells.. but i could be wrong, let me knwo if you get 3g working cuz id like to see what 3g can do on my g1. but tmo's edge network here is fast too.

Hey I'm in the same palce as you! I have Cincinnati Bell and a G1.

Ok so apparently CB's 3g network IS active right now...my brother has a Nokia 3555 and his phone displays 3g almost everywhere.

In order to use their 3g though you need a Cincinnati Bell 3g SIM card. I however, have that, and your settings, and 3g still won't work. It's so frusterating!

Do you have any more insight on getting 3g to work? Also, for you, is your "Use 2g networks only" checked? If I recall, I have to have that checked, or else my EDGE use varies...like sometimes it won't connect.

    Thanks.

If you have a G1 and Cincinnati Bell, GET A 2G (old + red on the back) SIM CARD!

With the new 3g (blue on back) SIM cards, you get SLOW EDGE speeds and no MMS.

3g is rolled out now in what seems like most places that I visit (except the 100 foot radius around my freaking house).

When you get the phone you can either skip the Google login/setup or you can hit MENU and edit APN's. In the APN screen, delete EVERYTHING (by going into one and then hitting menu and delete...repeat). Then add 2 new ones. One called CBW MMS and one called CBW Web:

    Name: CBW Web
    APN: wap.gocbw.com
    Proxy: 216.68.79.202
    Port: 80
    Username: cbw
    Password:
    Server: 216.68.79.199
    MMSC:
    MMS proxy:
    MMS port:
    MCC:310
    MNC: 420
    APN Type: default

    Name: CBW MMS
    APN: wap.gocbw.com
    Proxy:
    Port:
    Username:
    Password:
    Server:
    MMSC: http://mms.gocbw.com:8088/mms
    MMS proxy: 216.68.79.202
    MMS port: 80
    MCC:310
    MNC: 420
    APN Type:

These settings currently have EVERYTHING working for me.

I just got my G1. Of course rooted and flashed to JF AND1.5. I'm using an older sim. It works, but what you are saying is that I need a 3G sim? Anyone have results? My G1 is always on Edge, I know I'm in a 3G area.

OK, I wasn't in a good 3G area. I went into downtown Mason, Oh and the 3G icon appeared. Yep, it works. As Fast as WiFI. Nice, just wish it was better coverage. Setting described above work perfect. My sim is just white and a few years old.

I got my new G1 a week ago and traveled from cincinnati to louisville and could not see my 3G or even egde anymore. Went back up to cincinnati to get it fixed I could connect to the internet and they said they fixed the problem when i traveled back down to school. Came back down to louisville and yet again the 3G/E symbol on my phone disappeared and i havent seen it since. I set all the APN settings to what it should be and triple checked them. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I looked on cinbells coverage map and it shows that they have 4g,3g...etc coverage in louisville. Please help with this annoying problem.
