The hardware is just not there bud.
You can always find out if the station you want to listen to allows streaming.
If not find similar stations on the web.
I'm sittin here playin with my G1 and I got kinda curious.. since it doesn't have an FM radio built in, would it be possible for a developer to add one in via app, or is that a hardware restriction?

it would need a tuner to pick up FM frequencies...thats a hardware issue...possibly get an app developed that finds FM webcasts though...
Enri,
Thats exactly my question? I miss my old Nokia phone that had FM Radio built in! AND, i could listen to it thru an Earbud and when an incoming call came, it would trump the radio until the call ended, then resume FM Radio. It was awesome and now, it's my lone grief with the g1. (That, and the lack of Adobe Flash and Reader)
Let me know if you find anthing out.
Thanks
A
use imeem untill something else comes out, it works pretty good my only complaint is that sometimes when it starts a new song it resets it near the start of the song for some reason (bug im guessing)
Frito,
I looked into imeem but that's JUST music. In truth, i just want to stay connected to NPR all day. I could stream from their website, but i don't know what application for the G1 allows "Adobe Flash"-style results?? Surely, there's SOMEBODY out there who could code out a solution??
G1 lacks the following:
-the ability to read .pdf files
-Adobe Flash, or its equivalent
-FM Radio, (and a freakin' adapter!)
Help, or thoughts, welcome.
Thanks
Flash and PDF support will come sooner rather than later hopefully
the Radio part though will not happen, but its not like other smartphones commonly have a real FM tuner in it, and imo who listens to normal radio stations these days anyways
It would be cool to see a shoutcast app so we can listen to streaming stations around the net
Wow, complaining about the lack of FM radio on a high tech device like the G1 is pretty moot. FM is old tech, having HD Radio support would be nice.
If you really need FM, a Creative Muvo or Sansa Clip is very small and offers great FM support.
I love to have some Android phone but I don't buy any phone without FM Radio
