    Default Extremely Slowwww!

My very first experience with the T-Mobile G1 was EXTREMELY slow speeds. I was getting timeouts from the Home application, the Market application, the browser, among others. Sometimes the phone would take over 1 minute to respond to a button push.

So what was the cause of this speed issue? My best guess is that it was caused by loading a large microSD card with thousands of songs into the phone and then opening the music application. At first, it gathered up song names quickly. Then it got slower. Eventually the phone became unusable.

The solution: I put the original 1 GB card back into the phone and it worked fine after that.

Anyone else seeing this problem? (Vincent had mentioned a similar issue about a week ago...)

    Reg

P.S. I LOVE the phone, BTW!

Not here. Everytime I opened the browser, I was surfing with edge network.

I called T-Mobile and told them "I AM CALLING YOU FROM MY NEW G1!!!"....lol

And I told her that to put my phone with 3G and change plan.

She did, and boom!.....website loads faster than ever.

She said that I will have it for FREE until 29th when new cycle starts.

Might be an issue with media scanning. Did you put the music files in the root directory? If you did you should put them into a folder. Having lots of files in the root directory will slow the sdcard down.

Hey, I had the same issue when I put a bunch of music on my card to test it out. It appears the music player app is not coded very well, and chokes itself out on large file lists. Hopefully an update will address it.

I was wondering why so many folders were on the root directory. Man, android created one for each app and pictures and music...etc etc. I only have a 2 gig card, i think its enough for now tho.

No. Only a few folders are at the root level. Most music files are two or three levels down. There are no more than about 50 files in any one directory.

The card in question is an 8 GB class 6 card from A-Data. It has about 4 GB of movies on it and about 2 GB of audio. Most of the audio files are WMA and some are MP3.

If it's not that then it probably is a problem with the music player.

They are updating the market (the market before was actually a beta version) so all the apps had to be reloaded, the video app that was there before will probably come back sometime around launch.

BTW how many apps are in the store now?
