Hello everyone,
Not sure if this has been posted. I was wondering how unsafe would it be to download an app outside the market place on the phone. Has anyone done this that can say from expirence?
I have downloaded two. First one was Opera mini (which wouldn't install) and the other one is OI News Reader (which installed perfectly).
I actually downloaded the Twitroid app on the developers main website, and although it was still in beta mode, it was safe. Android by default actually doesnt recommend you downloading apps outside of the marketplace, and a prompt come up that tells you this. You then would have the ability to disable that security feature that prevents you from doing so. The twitroid app and many more will be in the marketplace come this monday anyways though.
I downloaded ServerUp from Handango. Had to pay for it, but I wanted it. I downloaded the app and it would not run on my G1. I emailed the programmer, told him it would not install. He worked on and over a 36 hour period of time he found the problem, got it working, tweaked it some. It works great now. In addition he is aware of an annoying bug and is working on a fix. I give Mike at Archanet a thumbs up for his quick work and dedication to sloving a problem. This app is now also available through the marketplace.
FYI - even though this app costs, the programmer has lowered the price at least through the weekend. Can't beat his service. He has a demo on his web site that walks you through this app. Check it out.
I'm trying to figure out how to install the app here: http://www.mobihand.com/product.asp?id=21892&n=TooDo
I did install the SSh client googlebot and another app (that was useless and I uninstalled already).
Anyone got any tips on installing the TooDo app?
okay so all these apps will eventually be on the market place? so might as well wait, unless you must have the app before hand.
when downloading apps online
do they save into the phone's storage space or onto the SD card?
and which online websites are legit to download from?
is this one?

Android apps that you download from the web saves to the SD Card, but installs the app onto the internal memory.
