Default Do we need to get rid of myfaves?

According to several threads, myfaves is the cause of the rogue data roaming and -- is it possible? -- the rogue messaging issue?

"The reason for all of this is that the phone uses MyFaves as a backend to communicate with T-Mobile, wether or not you have it as an option on your account. It uses this to sync your location, and sends extremely small packets of information to their U.S. sites every few seconds. This is only a feature on the US versions of the phone
T-Mobile has not released any date as of now to say one way or the other,or even if they WILL fix it.

The only sure fire way to fix it is to root your phone, and re-flash it with the UK of Developer version of the phone, that does not use MyFaves at all. This process is free to do, but not incredably easy if you aren't tech savvy."

You can not install RC8 or any other UK updates to the U.S version of the phone. It just won't work with that. Can anyone else confirm this?

    well that is interesting.

i wonder if when I flashed on the adp1 update all my contacts failed and I couldn't make calls. Since it doesn't have my faves apparently.

I wonder how much affect this lil thing has on battery also.

I'm pretty sure you can't... it would seem an awfully easy fix though.

There is a way to do it, you have to get HardSPL and flash the RC7 .nbh then upgrade to JF/OTA RC8.

So, think this is worth doing or should we imagine T-mo is going to fix this? I presume if, in root, you just delete myfaves, your phone is screwed? Also, good point about battery life if this thing is blasting away like a freakin' machine gun.

just flash to rc8 or adp1. You can do it with any g1 as long as you have root....I routinely move between the three version with no problems.

You are in the US, I presume? And, your contacts etc work OK? In other words, if you run the UK version it doesn't have myfaves, but all else seems to function? Thanks.

But... didn't they recently shut down data roaming on UK phones? Or, was that an unrelated issue?
