Hey that's an awesome opinion and it is a very open post I'm sure we'll have a good conversation with this.
i had the HTC Tattoo previously but the battery life was appaling. the HTC Magic was "exclusive" to Vodafone and i didn't liked the Voda sign in front. so i had to settle with the HTC Hero which is a joy to use and suits my needs except that it had still some "shortcomings" like it could do with (a) better battery life, (b) and camera with LED/Xenon flash, an (c) "unlocked" bluetooth capability for seamless and open transfer (i.e. send and receive) files from other bluetooth-enabled devices.(and not just from HTC's) and a (d) music player that allows you to add/delete songs to a playlist on-the-fly plus an equaliser.

OP, if you absolutely need flash and completely open bluetooth, you may want to consider another non-android phone.
What does "better" battery life mean? There are a number of music players in the market. Have you tried them to see if they were what you were looking for?

Have you got the most recent ROM's? They are rather better optimised regarding battery life. But 1 days life is about par for modern smart phones.
Try one of the new 2.0/2.1 roms, these have better BT, since this was a problem with the Android code, not the phones or HTC.
MixZing lets you make up playlists on the fly, and is imo, much better than the stock music player, and you can get files which improve sound quality:

I've used v2r2 on my Hero, and it makes the audio much much better![]()

You're not going to do anything about the camera. Why did you buy the Hero if you wanted a flash??????
Have a look at the Nokia N86. My son has one. Beautiful pics and the music player will be good if he chose one !

YOU SHOULD HAVE READ MY POST ON HOW TO FIX BATTERY LIFE ON HTC TATTOO. Now I charge my phone once in 3 days.
wow, you had to settle on a hero? never thought i'd hear that lol.
battery life i guess is always an issue with heroes (i have a g1/dream, and i have to say that i've got it worse). i guess it's something that you have to get used to. some people have some tricks for preserving battery life (having replacement batteries, over/underclocking as necessary, etc.). i'm sure if you start a new post, people will help.
i never use bluetooth, so i can't help you on that.
as for apps, you should do a little searching. android market may be tiny compared to app store, but there's great apps for a lot of different things. in fact, i downloaded tunewiki last week, but i haven't gotten a chance to try it out. i've heard good things about it; hopefully it suits your needs. have fun with your hero!
