    Default Dangers of Root Access?

I got my G1 yesterday and I LOVE IT! Best phone ever minus mediocre battery. It got to ten percent after about 6-7 hours of non-stop use.

Anyways, I've read about all of this cool stuff you can do with root access and I was wondering...Is it safe?

Having to downgrade the firmware and manually installing it again sounds a lil risky. What will happen when rc31 comes out? Will it mess up the phone?

the superuser whitelist app that's auto-installed during the root process will prevent any root access without your permission.

I don't have a G1 yet(will have in about....4.5 hours) but from what little I've read about the rooting(haha) process is that it lets you pick and choose what features you want from Android without T-Mobile controlling those choices for you. T-Mobile can be very constricting with their phones. Just look at the Sidekicks.

I'm sure rooting isn't the best for a casual G1 user but most of the people who probably have very personal relationships with their G1 and want it to fit to their needs.

Also quite a few vets have said that it comes pre-installed with a few apps to protect itself from others or you, yourself messing it up and bricking your precious.

You'll get cupcake a lot faster if you root..... *tempt*tempt*tempt*

You just know Google is going to release cupcake as a downloadable image for the devs, who will pick it apart, and there will be a new JesusFreke mod RC31 before T-Mobile ever gets around to its rolling OTA updates.
