Not at all, took the sim out of my old phone, put it in the new phone, charged it, and everything worked.

well that can't be good, maybe try taking it to a corp store where they can help you out in person is all I can think of, maybe try having them activate a new sim for you or something?

Did you turn 3G on? It's off by default.

A quick fix is call tmo pple and ask them if the sim card that you are using is the same as the one registered under you name, this setup problem happens once u activated the new sim card that comes with phone and decide to use the old sim with the G1 again. Call them. You be back online sooner than you think.

Ok I had the same problem today. It took about estimated 6hours for tmo to "provisioned" my data plan. >_> The sales rep it should be spontaneous but lied. So just give it 2-7hours to let them update your plan. If it doesn't work call and complain =D.

Just spoke to VPhone and they said that it may be because it's an old SIM. The techy guy said that this is a common prob and they can give you a new SIM on the spot in a VPhone shop.

Yes, when I got my G1, the woman I bought the phone from went ahead and set me up with a new SIM for this reason...she said some of the older ones had trouble being read. I've been with T-Mobile for over 5 years and still had the same SIM I started with..
