    Default Apps to SD card

Found this on Howard Forums. Looks like a workaround to get Apps on the SD card instead of internal memory.

I've seen conflicting reports within reviews and just plain speculation, so here is the real deal. I've been playing with the G1 for a week now and it took me a good day to figure out the logic...

Any apps you download from the Market will automatically (at least in this beta version of the market) be saved in the G1 device memory. There is currently no option to save it otherwise, it just goes there.

However, if you download .apk app from any url, once the dl has completed and you tap on it in the drop down notification pane it will inform you that the application can only be installed to the sd card. Voila!

So for instance you would prefer to dl some market app to your sd just dl it directly from the developers website as opposed to the market. There is a preference in applications settings that you must check to allow this first!

There is currently no file manager, but once someone develops one you could also just copy the apps directly to a sd card and install them from there.

Hope this sheds more light on the misconception.

Yea really...If there isn't an app out yet for it, that's definitely a good work around...you are vulnerable to the developers site though. There has to be some way to do it though...That's the same as saying you can't save the pictures you take on the phone to the SD card...I'm optimistic...

It seems that Android OS "issues" are being resolved in the matter of hours - not days not weeks ... there is always workaround which I don mind hehehe

The more I have thought about this the easier is seems to be to fix. All someone has to do is write the code for a switch. If it already loads non-Android Market apps to the SD by default all we need is either A.) A way to download from Market to our PC then upload to the phone or B.) A switch in Market to tell it to load to SD instead of internal Mem.

Maybe it's fixed in the impending Firmware update but if not hopefully some young programmer will come to our aid.

Has anybody tried this since receiving their G1? I notice the dates of the last reply was before G1's hit the open market.

Hopefully we won't have to worry about this because of the possible change using root.
