This is pretty conflicting--- does anyone here really know their stuff with intentions to cancel the data plan? I'd give them a call but if they told me I could not cancel the data plan I don't have enough in my arsenal to fire back at them a good enough reason to get me out of it. I heard at the very least, their is a $20 data plan that you can use that I may end u doing. But preferably, I'd like to be free and clear of the data plan.

I successfully removed the data plan on 2 of my 4 lines (2 lines with, 2 lines w/o).
The phrasing I received from the rep that removed it was
"You should keep it to ensure all the functions are available... but simple calls/text are useable w/o it".
I think it's a YYMV deal. I'm calling one last time to make sure it's not part of the contract. I ordered 4 phones, 2 for use and 2 for sale (wanted to keep all contract end dates together... plus make a few dollars... haha). That's why I'm so curious about the data plan =P
A G1 without data is like a woman who doesn't put out.
A HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE waste of money.
lol gaston! The post about you being pictures w/ horns and a pitch fork... I think it's the hehehes bringing that image!
More power to you either way, you're entertaining me quite a bit on the boards LOL!
Maybe you should start a master thread in regards to successful data plan cancels or CS rep answers to why the data cannot be canceled. Seems like a hot topic at the moment.
i called today and said i would like t-zones on my current phone because i wasnt sure if i was going to use it and would like to remove the g1 and data plan ..she did it and i said i might add the data plan if i was going to keep the phone..she said okay and told me she wasnt sure if the phones features would work but i could use to make calls
i have a question though..if i use a wifi connection will the phones features work?
Based on my experience, some only work with WiFi, some only work with T-Zones and others work with both. Here is what I currently believe:
WiFi only:
- Browsing and other internet-accessing activities that are NON-Google.
T-Zones only:
- Logging in to Google to activate the phone or to reactivate after a password change or a permanent lock-out.
Both:
- All Google activities once your password has been accepted.
I'm sure we'll get a better picture on what works as time goes on, but that's how I read it currently.
