Hey all,
I'm getting more and more excited about this OS/phone coming out, but I was wondering: What method might it use for syncing music and files?
Surely it won't just be all manual. It would be really nice to be able to have it auto sync, or at least be able to sync things like playlists, etc.
Love it or hate it, this is something the iphone definitely has going for it. Whether you like itunes or not, you can hardly deny it can do a really good job of organizing and syncing your music and your device. I am looking forward to replacing my ipod with a phone, and this is a big concern. I don't suppose there could be a way to actually USE itunes to sync, do you think? Is it possible for a non-apple product to do that??
Any thoughts/anyone know?
Thanks,
Ricky

There are many music players which help you in editing metadata & tags & playlists.... So just drag & drop of files is the best way i think.... please don't tie it to any one particular music player

I'm sure there'll be more than just one way to sync music on Android. Although, given that Google helped Apple with Google Maps on the iPhone, I guess Apple might oblige Google with letting them Sync Android with iTunes. (but that might just end up being wishful thinking).
Or maybe somebody might write an OS level module which projects an Android based as an iPhone on the computer so that there wouldn't be any need for Apple's support in that case![]()

There are media players that can handle your music library a lot better than itunes.. have you heard of MediaMonkey..... you should definitely give it a try.... it syncs with majority of portable music players... & is highly addictive!
I don't want my android phone to be attached to anything that is associated even remotely with Apple

I agree with most posts, lets not lock it down to any one individual software protocal. I prefer to be able to use whatever. Given what this phone is supposed to be capable of (open handset) I would imagine that even if it is designed for one particular source, there will be add ons to allow for just about anything you can imagine.

...and the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw............RUSH
No doubt. And I'm not saying I want it locked to any one thing. The original question was referring to the day you take it out of the box... I have my entire music collection in iTunes. I love the way iTunes syncs my iPod (though I'm not crazy about the way the iPhone is a slave to it...yuck.
I was just wondering if anyone knew how you are supposed to sync it up right out of the box? If they're going to tout it as a do-it-all multimedia device, it has to come with some intuitive abilities to do this, I would think.
And by the way, I think implying that certain means of syncing music should NOT be allowed (people saying to stay away from iTunes) is just as bad as someone dictating what SHOULD be allowed. I happen to like iTunes. I don't buy my music there anymore, but my personal preference has led me there.

Since you don't buy music from itunes.... i think you use it solely as music player & organizer.... in that case you should definitely give MediaMonkey a try.... It can even handle libraries consisting of 50000 tracks easily.... Try it & PM me your experience... you will never want any other music player ever again!

Media Monkey is my player of choice as well. It works really well, syncing with most devices out there.
I suspect that the phone will ship with all the nessicary stuff. Any phone that handles media comes with a Usb lead and a (Basic) App for getting the media on and off the device.I assume that being Open Source it will either work with many other sync products straight out of the box or will do so in under a week once people have written the nessicary drivers. But they will have to ship it with soething so that the 'total newbie' is covered.
