I got mine installed.
msn/aim seems to work better. faster
battery I'll find out everything is on now. wifi & gps
screen still doesn't rotate when you flip into landscape. web brrowsing seems a lil faster

You don't check for the update. The G1 will notify you once it becomes available to you.

i just got it as well typeing this on my G1 so far i havnt noticed any thing diff i will keep an eye out and post stuff here
