XML Edits - How To?

Hi All,

First off sorry if i've posted this in the wrong location but i've tried searching to no avail.

I'm Currently trying to theme a port hero theme for JF 1.51.

I have managed with some searches from the forums to figure out most stuff from .9's, compiling with eclipse and packing/unpacking .cramfs

One thing i cannot work out however is editing XML's. I've followed a few guides over at XDA devlopers but really thinking about giving up.

So the objective is to modifiy some colours such as the progress bar (most likely found in screen_progress.xml?) or Highlight colour.

As a last ditch atempt i'm asking you guys, How would ou do it? Did you follow any guide i could take a look at? Advice?
